¡Vamos a la playa! Barcelona beaches!

by Salli on September 1, 2010

While visiting the spectacular city of Barcelona, it is a must to spend some time on the beach.  It is a great place to get off the tourist track and relax and get some sun.  Plus, this beach is a “10”  for people watching!

It is so easy to get to the beach in Barcelona.  Just walk down the popular and entertaining street of Las Ramblas, past Plaza Colon, cross the big boulevard, walk by the marina, and you’ll see the public beach next to the marina.  From Plaza Catalunya you can walk to the beach in 20 minutes (unless you stop along the way to enjoy the buskers on Las Ramblas or stop to take pictures of the sights.)   There is also a subway (metro) stop near the beach for those who might be farther away.

Once on the beach, you will find groups of lounge chairs and umbrellas that you can rent for the day.  It should cost about 6 euros for the day, and 10 euros if you rent an umbrella  too.  If you don’t feel like renting, just take your own towel!

Once you’re comfortable, slathered with sunscreen or have taken your dip in the Mediterranean Sea, sit back and relax!  The Mediterranean is a gorgeous sight!  Besides the beauty of the sea you  will be fully entertained by the  other sights you might see—every body shape, age and form of beach wear (or lack of) you can imagine.

It is also worth accepting a massage from a pesky ‘masseur” that are combing the beach.  The cost of the massage starts at 5 euros. Then, you might be easily enticed to pay the 20 euros for a full body massage – very worth it!

July and August are the busiest and warmest months – when people watching is at its peak… but anytime of the year is great to spend some down time on Barcelona’s great beach!

Mini Adventures – Living on the Edge (sorta)

by Denise August 24, 2010

After a crazy couple of weeks of work that included high stress and lots of hours, on Friday I pushed my chair back and turned to my honey / business partner and said “Let’s get the hell outta Dodge.”  Within 20 minutes  (I am not making this up) we had:

Brazil, Spanish Style

by Denise July 4, 2010

That great plan that we had to try food from all over the world, paired with just the right wine from the same region, all in conjunction with various Worldcup matches, kinda got sidetracked a little bit by a couple of insanely crazy weeks.  Getting that Executive Sommelier certification proved [click to continue reading...]

Spanish Soccer – Agony and Ecstasy

by Denise June 21, 2010

Ok, ok, I admit it. I’ve been hiding in shame.  Spain made a pitiful appearance in their first World Cup match and got beat by Switzerland. Switzerland!  No offense to Swiss soccer fans, but the Swiss are not exactly known as a futbol powerhouse.  And Spain has been (until recently) [click to continue reading...]

La Vida Dulce – Sweet Life of Food, Wine, and Soccer

by Denise June 13, 2010

How Sweet It Is!  There is absolutely nothing that I love more than cooking up great food, choosing the right wine to go with it, and sharing it with family and friends.  Add in an international futbol (soccer) game and it just doesn’t get any sweeter.
Spain taught me that working [click to continue reading...]

Wine – OH! Pairing Great Food and Wine

Thumbnail image for Wine – OH! Pairing Great Food and Wine by Denise May 26, 2010

What do you get when you cross great food with great wine – but they weren’t meant to go together?  A train wreck of flavors.  This seems to be a more American phenomenon than something you will run across in Europe.  Take Spain for example. You go to a normal Spanish restaurant, [click to continue reading...]

Pasión Flamenco

by Salli May 11, 2010

I return again to the subject of having a passion.  What is yours?  What makes your adrenaline flow?  What causes the words to flow or even gush out of your mouth when talking about your passion?  Well, mine is easy….Spain, the Spanish culture, its people.  And I can get this all [click to continue reading...]
